PARKING IN QUEEN STREET

The Traffic Department is taking a very tolerant view of parking in Queen Street, for there are some motorists whose cars ar.e in the street by the hour. There are times during the evenings when a car might reasonably be parked in Queen Street for an hour or two. but those periods in which congestion occurs the idle shopper should be hurried out of the street when the 15 minutes have expired. In Christchurch the traffic inspectors fasten tags to cars which are left too long in busy areas* and this usually has the effect of teaching the motorists a lesson. The idea might be given a trial in Auckland. It would avoid prosecution in the majority of cases, but any driver who received two or three tags might be invited to exchange them for a blue paper.
