LATE MR. E. W. BROWNE

AUCKLAND SCHOOLMASTER Mr. Edward Webb Browne, formerly headmaster of the Puni and Patumahoe Schools, and a resident of Waiuku for the past 30 years, died at Waiuku on Saturday at the age of 85. Born in Liverpool Mr. Browne went to the Argentine at the age of 18 and was engaged in sheep farming. After his return to England he was married in 1875 and came to the Dominion in 1884, arriving at Auckland. Entering the teaching profession, Mr. Browne, after a period at the Wellesley Street School and other city schools, took charge of the Puni School in 1887. After six years there and another year in Auckland he took charge of the Patumahoe School for several years. He then retired and went to live at Waiuku. Mr. Browne is survived by three sons and two daughters, all of Waiuku. His wife predeceased him 12 years ago.
