AUCKLAND PIONEER

LATE MR. JOHN BILKEY One of the pioneers of the Auckland Province, Mr. John Bilkey, of St. Heliers and Pukekohe, -died in the Auckland Hospital on Sunday at the age of 77. Born in Paul, Cornwa.il, Mr. Bilkey came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Bombay 64 years ago, and after the opening of the Thames goldfields was engaged in prospecting for several years. He removed to Pukekohe in 1877 and six years later married Miss Helen Meatyard, of Paparata. Bombay. Five years ago he retired to St. Heliers. living with his daughter, Mrs. W. King. Mr. Bilkey was a member of a family remarkable for longevity. His father was 90 years of age when he died, and his brother lived until he was 95. Four other members of the family are living, Henry, aged 82; Edwin, 74; Robert, 72. and Mrs. Davy, 64. Mr. Bilkey is survived by h,is wife, two sons and three daughters.
