INTOXICATED IN CAR
FARMER COMES TO TOWN WELLINGTON INCIDENT i Press Association. WELLINGTON, Saturday. A young farmer, Francis John Douglas, of Hawke’s Bay, denied charges in the Police Court to-day of having been intoxicated when in charge of a motor-car, having driven dangerously and having used indecent language in Willis Street. The police evidence was that Douglas passed a stationary tramcar. Later his motor was stopped by a traffic inspector, who asked him for his licence. He refused to produce it and used indecent language. Eventually he showed the licence. He was encouraged by others to defy the inspector, and was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was seen by doctors. Dr. Park said that from his appearance Douglas had been drinking fairly heavily on the Saturday, but when seen at 1.15 on Sunday he was practically sober. Witness, however, did not think he was fit to drive, even at the time of his examination. After a long hearing, Mr. E. Page, S.M., fined Douglas £25 and prohlbted him from driving for 12 months.
