NEW REGENT

THE MONKEY MARVELS Unprecedented crowds have been attracted to the New Regent Theatre since the famous monkey movie stars, Max, Moritz and Akka opened their season. At every performance hundreds have been turned away, the theatre being literally packed from floor to ceiling. On Saturday the entire evening house was booked completely out by midday. Box plans for the remainder of the season are filling so rapidly, that the management at great expense have postponed the opening of the monkey season in Wellington, in order to extend the Auckland season. Three extra days are now announced. Positively the last performances will be given on Saturday next. The chi€sf pictorial attraction at the New Regent Theatre is “Running Wild,” a Paramount picture starring W. C. Fields. The laughs can easily be imagined when one knows that Fields appears as a browbeaten, unasserting husband. He is henpecked af home by a nagging wife and a pesty stepson, and stepped on in the office by a hot-tempered employer. Then suddenly, everything changes. He is hypnotised and made to believe that he’s a “roaring lion.” A complete change is effected. Elmer runs home, breaks up a party, and beats the boy before hurrying to the office, wheer he buts in at a directors’ meeting and—that only starts telling what h* does.

Of course the spell can’t last for ever. Naturally, when the hallucination disappears, all sorts of things happen, and there are lots of persons who start “Running 'Wild.” An appealing romance between Mary Brian, Elmer’s daughter, and Claud Buchanan, son of Elmer’s boss, rambles along through the comedy.

Eddie Horton is in his last week at the New Regent. He sails on Friday for Australia, where he returns to the Prince Edward. Luring his farewell week he will give any special numbers by request. Maurice Guttridge and the Regent operatic orchastra render the usual excellent musical programme.
