Water Shortage Is Serious Problem For Suburban Bowlers
Owing to the continued dry weather, the Manurewa bowling green is in a deplorable condition at present. The bore from which the club derives its supply has run dryf and during the present dry spell practically no water has been pumped, and numberless cracks have developed of varying sizes, some measuring about two inches wide, and going to a depth of 15 to 18 inches. The emergency measure of pouring sand down the cracks has been taken, but as the cracks develops, the sand disappears, and for the present this has been abandoned. MORE FORTUNATE CLUBS Favoured with a good supply of water from its private bore, the Papatoeto© Bowling Club’s green is at present looking a picture, and stands out in striking contrast to the parched appearance of the surrounding country. No fewer than 3,000 gallons of water are distributed on the green daily. With a plentiful supply of water, the Otahuhu green is in good condition, and watering operations were in vogue for 12 hours yesterday.'
