“Second Thoughts Are the Best”
CRICKET TOUR AMENDED THE AUSTRALIANS’ VISIT Following on representations from various affiliated associations, the New Zealand Cricket Council lias dropped an amended itinerary for the Australian cricketers’ tour of the Dominion. The new itinerary is a distinct improvement on the original, and should remove most of the grounds for complaints that were previously in evidence. Vic Richardson and his men will “kick off” at Nelson on .February 15, and after playing the chief major and
minor associations, will finish the tour with test matches against New Zealand ai Auckland and Dunedin respectively toward the end of March. The Australians will probably find the tour a somewhat arduous one, as it is essentially a lightning trip: but as they are being exceedingly well paid for the time they are playing cricket, they will appreciate the fact that New Zealand is bent on cutting down expenses, especially as there is a lot of leeway to make up over the English visit k.st year. THE AUCKLAND DATES Apart from a better arrangement of the matches, the chief points to be noticed in the new itinerary are. the fact that Southland’s vigorous protest at being overlooked has resulted in the southermost cricket centre of the Dominion getting a two-day match: while the match against Auckland 1: as been put back to March 5, 10 and 12, and is separated from the First Test at Auckland by a fortnight. This tour is regarded in Australia as an important preliminary to the rebuilding of the Australian XI., which will meet the Englishmen in the Tests in the Commonwealth next year. A
very powerful side has been chosen — practically a Test eleven is available — and the tour should be the biggest attraction we have had here for some years past. The only ground for regret is that with the amount _>£ travelling involved for the two Tests, it is unlikely that New Zealand will be at full strength, in view of the fact that many of our prominent players have had so much time off in the past 12 months or so. Still, the Aussies will find New- Zealand a much stiffer proposition than the travel-worn side which played there last year.
A MAN’S HOLIDAY Have you ever noticed a man packing for his vacation always takes care that he has his pipe with him? He makes sure that he packs his pipe and also plenty of the tobacco without which his happiness would not be complete. The right tobacco he depends upon to add that last soothing, balmy touch to his comfort. Just any tobacco wont do. Take Edgeworth, for instance It doesn’t completely satisfy all men or there would be only one brand on the market. But many men swear by it, and there are probably many others not smoking it ought to be—who d»i't know it, and therefore, have no that there is a tobacco that hits their taste so exactlv that it might have been made for them alone. Barlow Bros., Christchurch, are the New Zealand Distributors. .i
