It is intended by tha Governoe General /and Lady Alice Fergusson t( give the garden party at ‘'Elmwood' on Saturday afternoon, February II Those invited will be representative of those employed in the industries ii the city. The general proposal oi their Excellencies breaks new grourd. and is indicative of the genuine H terest they are taking in the affair, of the Dominion. Of course, it will be impossible in the limited space at "Elmwood - ’ to entertain more than a fraction oi those employed, so the invitations are to be restricted to between 500 and 600. .It is intended to make the invitations as thoroughly representative as possible, and various business concerns are being asked to submit a specified number of names. It is being suggested that a proportion of those invited should be married, so that wives may be included in the invitation. Before coming to a decision on the subject, their Excellencies conferred with the Mayor of Christchurch, the Rev. J. K. Archer.
