OTAHUHU BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL At the meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council held last evening Mr. T. Clements, deputy-Mayor, presided. The report from the Department of Health re the water supply stated that insufficient chlorination was indicated and urged that the question be treated as urgent. The Auckland Gas Company stated it was prepared to lay mains in the new streets being formed; on condition that the owners paid interest on the outlay until such time as the main showed a profit. It was decided to ask the company to lay the mains without any obligation to the owners, and to lay the mains in the untarred portion of the footpath. The Auckland Electric Power Boar.' expressed its willingness to erect | power poles in the newly-formed , roads. The engineer reported that 3,707.000 gallons of water had been pumped during the last three weeks, and the level of the tank had lowered 3i inches since the last reading. The Health Department wrote com- 1 plaining of the state of a septic tank and the attention of the council was assured. > It was decided that the council pay j 1 its share of the cost of a telephone ! for the use of the traffic inspector. On the recommendation of the Legal and Finance Committee, it was agreed that the proceeds of the sale of the old fire engine, amounting to £5, go toward the general funds, and the ap* plication of the brigade that it be j transferred to its account be refused, i Application is to be made to th€: I Telephone Department for the installa- { tion of a public telephone in the dis- ! trict.
