POOL AT RANGITOTO
FACILITIES FOR BATHERS The Rangitoto Island Domain Board, which is the Devonport Borough Council, has in hand a scheme for making a. fine bathing pool, three-quarters of an acre in extent, just at the head of the wharf. A natural basin exists there and the building of a half-tide barrage eight feet thick at the bottom and four feet at the top, will retain the sea water, and in addition be providing facilities for bathers and will ma.ke a decided scenic improvement. The provision of a sand carpet in the pool will make a good floor. The idea of fencing off the basin has been talked of for years, but only just now has the opportunity arrived for putting the scheme into effect. The .project entails utilising the prison labour now at the island employed on roading work.
