NELSON TROTTING FIXTURE OPENS TUESDAY NEXT LIST OF ACCEPTORS The acceptances received for the Nelson Trotting Club's annual fixture, which this year is being held on January 31 and February 1. arc highly .‘satisfactory and judging from the size of the fields and the class of compeitors engaged, lovers of the sport in he Sunny City are assured of a successful meeting and good racing. The ine response from owners is a tribute o the work of Mr. Geo. S. Simpson, he newly-appointed hnndicapper. who :n his initial essay handled the task competently.

FINAL GALLOPS FOR TAKAPUNA MEETING LITTLE WORK AT ELLERSLIE A number of trainers gave their fast work at Ellerslie this .Horning in view of engagements at Takapuna on Saturday and Monday. The course proper (two trestles out) and the tan were most in use, while the No, 2 gTass was also available. COURSE PROPER King Emerald finished ahead of Luxurious at the end of five furlongs in 1.5. The two-year-old Archieval and Winsome Boy were restricted to a half mile sprint, run in 53. This is the second gallop the former has had since being put into work. War Officer gave Abbey Day a start and beat her over five furlongs in 1.4, the last half-mile being cut out in 50 4-5, an attractive gallop for a hack. There was not much between Piet and Pompieus at the end of six furlongs in 1.18 3-.5. Honeheke had a slight advantage over Idun at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. The Lover was ridden out to beat. Corinax by a head over six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. Corinax is a greatly-improved horse as the result of racing up North. The two-year-olds, Mon Star and Merxcis, began smartly from the threefurlong post and finished up in 40. They appeared to be going easily at the end.

A contrast to his previous gallop was that in which Palmares proved too good for Bombarder over five furlongs in 1.5 4-5. Catonian moved over half a mile in 52 2-5, and looked as if he could have done better. He is in excellent fettle. Princess Ronnie has attracted notice by her efforts on the track lately, and there was fair interest centred in her when she covered half a mile in 51. She will be one of the favourite division for the Zealandia Handicap at Takapuna. Cynthia N, Winsome Girl and Valquette were associated in a task over six furlongs in 1.22. Cynthia N appeared to be going better than Win- ; some Girl at the finish, while Valquette j pulled up when the straight was reached. Automne moved well over seven furlongs in 1.31 3-5, the first three furlongs taking 38 3-5. No. 2 GRASS Miss New Zealand moved well within herself over a round in 1.55. Salamander couM have improved upon his 1.5 4-5 which he took for five furlongs. He is due to race in the opening event at Takapuna. Acushla traversed a round in 1.53 2-5 and was going well at the finish. THE TAN Sir Roseberry went comfortably o\er six furlongs in 1.25, and could have improved on that effort. Town Guard and Judge’s Box were in company in a bout over six furlongs in 1.21 3-s—a good effort. The pair were practically on terms at the finish. Baby Bun and Speechless were associated over six furlongs, and were not unduly hurried to register 1.23. Hipo was trotted round to the three furlongs post and there hopped off smartly, finishing up in 40 2-5. He was not doing his best. An attractive gallop was that registered by Mint Leaf, who easily beat Archeno by three lengths over a round. The initial two furlongs were run in 30, three in 41 4-5, half a mile in 56. and the full distance in 1.51 4-5. It appears to be only a question of whether the course will suit Mint Leaf for him to possess a chance in the Takapuna Cup. Mem sahib was restricted to a working gallop over six furlongs in 1.28 2-5. Storm Fiend began slowly from the five furlong peg and came home in --the lasl half-mile taking 53* ___

Frowning Beauty was not allowed to do her best over a round in 1.58 t-5. THE JUMPERS Nola Night. (Hastings) gave a good exhibition over four pony hurdles. Simplicttas (Sharkey) and Lord Guy (Rae) did not jump as well as was expected over four uony hurdles. WINNERS PENALISED EGMONT AND GISBORNE For the Railway Handicap, to be run at th© Gisborne summer meeting. Dreamy has been rehandicapped at 7.7. Rehandicaps for the first day (Thursday next i of the Egmont meeting arc Egmont Cup—Hynanna 8.13: Nolan Gold Cup—Goshawk, 9.8; Wayward, 8.9, .Greengrocer B.§*
