Bathless Sunday

PLIGHT OF HAMILTON RESTRICTION NECESSARY (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. The Hamilton Borough Council has. found it necessary to reimpose restrictions on the use of water. No baths will be allowed on Sunday while Horohora works are closed. \ STATEMENT was made by the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, at the meeting- of the Hamilton Borough Council last night, that the whole of the town’s system was in jeopardy if abnormal usage continued, while the engineer reported that on Sunday the position would be such as to require the strictest economy in water consumption. No baths are to., be indulged in by Hamilton residents for eight hours on Sunday, and they will infringing the conditions for the usage of water if they go further than carrying out ablutions in hand-basins. The position is unique and the council, which partially lifted restrictions a week ago, has been compelled to reimpose them severely. The engineer reported that one part of the borough, alone, on Monday and Tuesdav, exceeded the existing record for the whole town, while yesterday the draw-off was exceptionally heavy. Tuesday’s consumption of 1,256,000 gallons was only 44,000 gallons below the total' of 21 hours pumping capacity. If water was used too freely next Sunday it might be necessary to cut off the whole supply while the Horohora power works are closed down temporarily. The engineer suggested an investigation of water-meter reticulation in the borough.
