IOLENT windstorms have occurred throughout the eastern part of the United States. Ten people have been killed and many injured. It is impossible to estimate the damage to property at present. The gale reached a velocity of 70 miles an hour. Pedestrians in New York City fought their way to subway stations against winds that made walking arduous. The waters of the harbour were churned by the gale, swamping and sinking two boats. All liners were delayed. Many injuries were caused when persons W'ere unable, through the force of the wind, to dodge motor-cars. —-A. and N.Z.
