Explorers Seek Jesuit Treasure
By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. Buried treasure, consisting of gold, silver and diamonds, estimated at £12,000,000 worth, is the fascinating objective of a hand of explorers, which is shortly setting out for Bolivia. Dr. Edgar Sanders says that the Jesuits mined and exported gold and silver to Europe regularly up to 1767. Aware that they were likely to be banished, they continued up to 1778 secreting their hoards in one place, believing that they would be allowed to return. Dr. Sanders says that he holds the document revealing the hiding place of the treasure. Previous digging operations revealed a silver crucifix and a parchment on which was written a warning that a curse would fall upon anybody proceeding further. Workmen accordingly declined to go on. Dr. Sanders declares that he is certain that he is on the right track. —A. and X.Z.
