GROWERS URGED TO WAIT Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The wheat committee of Canterbury, representing the growers, issued a staement to-day urging the farmers to refrain from accepting prices below the market rates for wheat. The committee argues that under sliding scale duties the price of wheat should not alter and only larger offerings than the market can absorb will reduce the price. The arrivals of butter shipments in Great Britain to the end of this month will total 1,151,203 boxes, against 983,145 for the same period last season, and to the end of March 1,798,659 boxes, against 1,480,619 boxes last seaThe arrivals of cheese shipments in Great Britain to the end of January this season will be 384,228 crates, compared with 359,041 crates last season, and to the end of March rhe total arrivals will be 691,06.5, as against 594,883 crates last season. COUNTRY STOCK SALES Auctioneers report on stock sales held during the week as follows: New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.: “We held our fortnightly stock sale at Te Puke on Tuesday. There was a fair yarding of cattle, and, in spite of dry conditions prevailing, there was a good clearance. Good competition was maintained throughout. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., report: During the week we held sales of cattle at Westfield and Pukekohe, a clearing sale on account of Mr. R. Humphries, Karaka, and pig sales at Pukekohe, Waiuku and Tuakau. There was a heavy yarding of cattle at Pukekohe and an average entry at Westfield. The demand and values for all classes were similar to those quoted the previous week.
