STOCK MARKET REVIEW

PEAK OF EXPORT SEASON BRISK TRADE IN THE WAIKATO Brisk trade continues to be done in fat stock by most of the works operating throughout the North Island. Both Auckland works are working to capacity, while consignments from Lower Waikato pistures are being diverted to Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki works. Little alteration has taken place in the overseas markets over the week. The season throughout New Zealand is at its height, but nowhere is greater activity shown, in comparison with other veurs, than over the Auckland Province. Both local works are working to capacity, the Westfield company, in fact, sending a considerable surplus to Hawke’s Bay from the Lower Waikato. Borthwicks. who have been operating strongly in the Waikato since the season opened continue to draw heavily, making competition particularly keen for fat cat-, tie. . .. Lambs still receive the principal attention of buyers, and farmers, too, as the season advances, are showing increased activity in quitting drafts as soon as they are fit for the works. The season for this class of stock is at its height. Increased business is being done in bigger sheep, but as yet they represent at the most only a side issue. ... The London market has registered little movement over the week, though with the heavy arrivals of lamb which are now being recorded a slight easing in prices cannot be unexpected. At the moment, however, the future pasition appears good, and, while there may be slight fluctuations no drastic change is indicated for the next few weeks. At Westfield yesterday values in most sections were firm at. late rates. Well finished cattle met with keen competition. Ewes predominated in a rather short yarding of sheep and values were, if anything, slightly firmer in comparison with late rates. The quality of tbe lamb offering generally was not high, and .tne majority lacked finish, quality against quality, the yarding selling at practically unchanged rates.
