PAPATOETO TOWN BOARD

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS At the meeting- or the Papatoetoe Town Board last evening, Mr. A. W. Hall presided. The foreman reported that 100 yards' of earth were required for tlie formation work at Birdwood Avenue footpath, and it was decided to purchase the required amount from Ivimpton’s at Is a Load. The footpath on Kenderdine Road will be proceeded with at the discretion of the Works Committee. It was- reported that -Carruth and Huia Roads and Gray’s Avenue had been reblinded to hold the metal. Station feoad West received a dressing of chips, and had been rolled. ' Good progress had been made with the footpath formation in Birdwood Avenue. It was decided to communicate with owners of property, asking them to cut down any grass adjoining their properties for the purpose nf .preventing fire from spreading. The traffic inspector reported the moving of the bus stop at the junction' of Great South Road and Station Road to a more suitable place. The v chairman and clerk are to make inquiries regarding the procuring of a comprehensive insurance • policy to cover the employees of the board. The medical practitioners of the district reported, through Mr. Foster, the likelihood of an epidemic breaking out owing to the shortage of water, and pointed out the danger of drinking water out of tanks that are practically empty.. They recommended that arrangements be made to procure water from the Otahuhu Borough Council, and it was decided to make inquiries at once, and if possible arrange for delivery to the • householders without delay. The chairman of the Works Committee submitted a plan of the proposed bandstand for the new recreation ground at an estimated cost of £BO for material. The proposal for erection by voluntary labour was left in the hands of Mr. Sorensen, who will work in conjunction with the members of the band. Accounts totalling £193 14s lid were passed for payment.
