The Manchester Merchant sailed from Auckland last evening for Wellington, thence; Lyttelton and Dunedin, to put out the remainder of her New York cargo. The Min arrived at Dunedin this morning from Lyttelton, and sails on Friday for Australia to land the balance of her New York cargo. The Taimii, which is at present completing her discharge of London cargo at Auckland, later commences loading here for her return voyage. COAL SHIPMENTS. —The quantity of coal (including bunkers), shipped at New castle during the week ended. December 23, for places beyond the State was 40,932 tons, of which 36,610 tons represented shipments for Commomvealth and New Zealand ports, the remainder being for foreign ports. Wilhelmsen, Oslo, and is intended for the Australian trade. Constructed in accordance with the requirements for Lloyd’s Register’s highest class as an open shelter decker w r ith freeboard, she is 460 ft in length between perpendiculars, 60ft in extreme breadth, and 42ft in depth. The deadweight carrying capacity. Is. about 9,500 tons, the gross register 6,731 tons, and- the net register 4,03 S tons. The propelling machinery consists of two single-acting fdur-stroke Diesel engines of the Deutsche Werke’s make, giving an output normally of 5,200 effective h.p. The speed corresponding lo that power was 14 knots, but on the trials, as has be£n stated, about 16i knots was obtained. All the auxiliaries are electricallly driven.
