POLL OF ONEHUNGA PEOPLE PROPOSED LOAN OF £20,000 A poll of the ratepayers of Onehunga will be taken to-morrow on the question of raising a loan of £20,000 to be spent on grading, kerbing and channelling the footpaths, and concreting the carriage way on Mount Smart Road, from Upper Queen Street to the eastern boundary of Rockfleld Road, and Church Street West from the beach to Queen Street. The plans and estimates for these two roads nave been drawn up by Mr. ** Greville Walker, and have been checked and approved of by the Public Works Department, which has specially commended Mount Smart Road as a ln the highway between Mount Albert and the Great South Road. The bocal Government Loans Board has a-lso approved of the scheme and sanctioned the loan, the term of which has been fixed at 20 years, with a sinking fund of 3 per cent, and bearing interest at 51 per cent. This will involve 4 special security rate of 7«l6ths of a Penny in the pound and means that after the wholes of the loan Is raised the cost to ratepayers will be approximately 3s 3d in each £IOO of unimproved value, diminishing as values Increase. The polling places are Friendly Society’s Hall, Grey Street, Royal Oak Hall, Symonds Street, Employers’ Association Rooms, Swanson Street, Auckland City, and Mrs. Baker’s Store, corner of Athens and Mount Smart Heads. All ratepayers and their wives °r husbands are entitled to vote proVl d«d their names are on the roll. The result of the poll will be announced from the Foresters’ Theatre, Queen Street, by the returning officer, •" r - H. A. Tockney, about 7.30 p.m., tomorrow.
