MAJOR DE HAVILLAND REPLIES TO BAILEY

RISKS OF FLIGHT DECLINES RECOMMENDATION ) (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. Mr. Philip Bailey, of Hamilton, who expressed his willingness to undertake the trans-Tasman flight on a D.H.9 machine, if one is available, and wrote to Major De Havilland, of Melbourne, to that effect, has received a cabled rely to-day in which the latter states ho cannot recommend that type of biplane for the project. Major Do Havilland is writing to Mr. Bailey concerning the proposal. The cable reads: “Letter just received. Regret cannot recommend D.H9 machine owing to excessive risk of Tasman flight with any single-engine machine. Thanks for inquiry. Writing.—Major De Havilland.”
