N.Z. CYCLE CHAMPION BEATEN AT MASTERTON

OAKLEY’S FAST RIDING CRACK SPRINTERS MEET Press Association. MASTERTON, Monday. A feature of the Masterton Athletic Club’s annual sports to-day was the meeting of F. Grose, triple title holder, and T. Oakley, in cycle events. Each won heats in the mile. Oakley scored a brilliant victory in the one and a-half miles invitation scratch race, beating Grose by 30yds in 3m 25 3-ss, and again in the two miles wheel race, the Masterton boy beat Grose by four lengths in 4m 39 l-ss. Oakley also won the three miles for the Walker and Hall Cup in 7m 3 2-ss. Grose did not start in this event. E. Keskinen, decathlon winner, with 4in. handicap, put the shot 42ft Sin, beating P. Munro by lin. E. Hoskins (Sfcyds), beat C. H. Jenkins by inches in the 100yds in 9 4-ss, while J. F. Fleming (21yds) headed off Jenkins in 12s for the Messenger Memorial Shield over 120yds. F. Williams (12yds) beat Fleming (4yds) and E. K Eastwood (Byds) in the 220yds in 225, and Eastwood (12yds) won the 440yds in 50 l-ss. R. Lander (12yds) won the 120yds hurdles in 16s, and Miss Swinburne won the women’s 75yds in 9 2-ss.
