PONSONBY’S BIG SCORE

Another Century to Breese

/TRICKET under the auspices of the Auckland Suburban Association was continued at the Domain on Saturday, and although the scoring at the commencement of play was very slow, faster play was seen later in the day.

POXSOXBY compiled the formidable total of 370 for seven wickets against Harbour Board B, and when play recommences next week the latter team will have to be at its best to knock off the deficit. Four batsmen notched scores over the half-century, and Fletcher was unlucky in not passing the hundred. Harbour Board A compiled 262 (Breese 116), to which Ellerslie had replied with 26 for no wickets when stumps were drawn. Bowling was of more than the average standard in the Glen Eden-Green Lane match, both Kerr and Wroath, of the rival sides, securing good figures.

the day, though Wroath had good figures, too.

The light had improved to a great extent when Glen Eden went to the crease with E. McNeil and Kerr. As if to make amends for being bowled for a “duck” by Kerr. Wroath at the northern end, skittled Kerr’s stumps with his first ball. Wroath kept a beautiful length all through the innings and wound up with very good figures. For 13 overs he had two maidens and took six wickets at a cost of 30 runs. Seccombe also bowled well, but more sr in the earlier stages. Losing two widkets very cheaply, Glen Eden made a useful stand with Kay and McNeil. Kay was very quiet and it was only when he did start to hit out that he fell to a characteristic round-armer from Elliott. His sixer to the pickle works was a tremendous hit. McNeil, with support from Anderson and J. Belsham, continued to score, but he had luck on his side. Two brilliant catches were held by Shepherd and Watts. Shepherd, in deepfield, hung on well to a high ball ■from Spearpoint, and the one-handed effort brought forth plaudits from the crowd. Watts fielded well >all day. His run to a short one from Belsham was done smartly and he held the ball only a few inches from the ground. Scores: — GREEN LANE. First Innings. C.
