RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM
TWO BIG FEATURES At last man’s best friend, the horse, has had his heroic services during the world war symbolised in permanent form by Fox Films in a very fine picture, “The War Horse,” which will be shown at the Rialto and Regent Theatres to-night. This is a story that will appeal to every type of theatre patron because of its great human appeal. Starring Buck Jones with Silver Buck,' his famed steed, in the title role, “The War Horse” is a splendid tribute to the equine soldiers of the Great War. Both story and screen version were written by Buck Jones and his director, Lambert Hillyer, and the two have made an unqualified success of their efforts. Gary Cooper will be seen in “The Last Outlaw,” also to be shown tonight.
Ufa have just completed what is regarded as the best educational feature of recent times. It is the result of a two-years’ expedition of the famous explorer. Dr. Cullen Ross, from the Cape to Cairo, and is told in story form under the title of “The Awakening of the Sphinx.”
Compelled to use two studios because of the unusually large number of sets in “Sorrell and Son,” the United Artists’ production shortly to be released in New Zealand, Herbert Brenon transferred the entire company from the United Artists’ lot to the Buster Keaton studios in Hollywood. A score of large sets were built for the Brenon unit at the United Artists’ studio, and as many more on the Keaton lot, which was turned over to the dramatic company while Buster was preparing for his next comedy.
