NO GREAT DAMAGE Press Association. NELSON, To-day. No serious damage has been caused by fires with the exception of the destruction of 15 acres of valuable scenic reserve at Longford, on the Nelson - Murchison road. It was reported during the week-end that the State Forest service gang has the fire well in hand. The fire in the Tophouse region is being tackled from the wings, and the valleys leading up to this area are being cleaned up. The Reefton forestry officer reports a considerable number of bush fires from smouldering and abandoned collieries, some of whictv have been burning for over 20 years.
