U.S.A. SEEKS PROTECTION By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. WASHINGTON, Friday. In the House of Representatives today, Mr. L. J. Dickinson. Republican member for lowa, introduced a Bill to amend the Fordney-McCumber tariff in order to secure additional protection for American agricultural products. If the Bill became law five cents a lb. would be placed on dry salted hides, four cents a lb on wet salted hides, 16 cents a lb on dry salted calfskins, and 10 cents a lb on wet and salted calfskins. These items are now free. The rates on meats, fresh and prepared, would be increased from 20 to 40 per cent, ad valorem.—A. and N.Z.
