“SEATS RESERVED”

COMMONERS IN INDIA BIRKENHEAD’S HOPE British Wireless—Press Assn.—Copyright RUGBY, Saturday. The Secretary of State for India, the Earl of Birkenhead, has expressed the hope that the political parties would not challenge the seats in Parliament of the members of the Indian Statutory Commission. These members, he pointed out, were drawn from all three parties, and for the next two or three years they must be primarily occupied with the immense anxiety of their work. The newspapers say a similar opinion was favoured in the lobbies of Parliament last session, and the view was firmly held that the members of the commission should be allowed an unopposed return at the general election.—A. and N.Z. •
