CONCRETE ROAD SCHEME
PROPOSAL FROM ONEHUNGA LOAN POLL NEXT WEDNESDAY The benefits accruing from the miles of concrete roads in Auckland and districts are now well known, and next to attempt to further improve its roads is Onehunga. With this idea in mind the Onehunga Borough Council has a proposal to raise £20,000 for the purpose of concreting streets in its district, and the ratepayers will be asked to sanction or otherwise the borrowing of the money at a loan poll to be held on Wednesday next, January 25. The loan will be required for the purpose of forming, kerbing and channelling the footpaths in Mount Smart Road on the south side from Oneen Street to Rockfield Road at the borough boundary, and on the north side from Queen Street to Marire Road, also to grade and concrete the carriage-way from Queen Street to Rockfield Road and the carriage-way in Church Street W'est from Beach Road to Queen Street. The security will be a special annual recurring rate of 7-16ths of a penny in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property in the borough. Provision for repayment shall be a sinking fund of £3 per centum per annum .The term of the proposed loan is 20 years, and the rate of interest is not to exceed 52 per centum. The polling booths will be located at Friendly Society's Hall, Grey Street East, Royal Oak Hall, Te Papa pa Picture Hall, Employers’ Association Rooms, Swanson Street, and Mrs. Baker’s store, Athens and Mount Smart Roads.
