MAORI ELECTIONS
TAU HENARE OPPOSED Notification by Mr. L. W. Parorc, of Dargaville, that he will contest the Northern Maori seat with Mr. Tau Henare, M.P., as an Independent, draws attention to the fact that the Maori elector is also preparing for the general election toward the end of this year. " THE opinion has been expressed, however, that Mr. Parore is hardly likely to move the member for Northern Maori. NORTHERN OPPOSITION As for the other seats, though Sir
Maui Pomare, M.P., will again meet with opposition tor the Western Maori seat, it is considered hardly likely that he will lose it. His own people at Taranaki, the Wanganui natives, and the Maoris even further south, will again doubtless rally to his call. It is just possible, however, according to one informant, said to be in touch with the native mind, that a certain factor in the Waikato may be the deciding influence as to the occupancy of this seat. For the Eastern Maori seat Sir Apirana Ngata will undoubtedly return to the House. The work that he has accomplished, particularly in the way of land settlement, for Maoris throughout New Zealand is widely appreciated.
