Closer settlement is now practically at a standstill in Tasmania, stales an and there is no present indication of resumption. Much of the land taken up has been ll jrown up and is back on the hands , the Government. entailing hea\> ‘Osses. Much unsuitable land was aeat far over its proper value, ana taken up bv settlers and returned S °ldlers who ‘were without proper Salifications.
