Hamilton Fires.—The Hamilton Fire Brigade has received 12 calls in a month, and nine have been to rubbish and gorse fires.

Model Dairy Factory.—Plans having been prepared, tenders are now being called for the erection of a model dairy factory at the Massey Agricultural College. The factory is to be built of concrete and tile roofed, and it will be on most modern lines throughout.

Tawa Flat Tunnel.—The hearing of the evidence by the commission formed to bring about an agreement between the contractors and employees at Tawa Flat Tunnel was concluded today, after Mr. J. Burnside had stated the case for the contractors. The commission reserved its decision.

Motor-Cycle Sports.—A comprehensive programme has been drawn up by the Hamilton Motor-Cycle Club for the second half of the season. The principal fixtures are: February 25, Tauwhare Hill climb; March 10. races at Claudelands; March 30, Chrysler Cup reliability trial.

Clever Student.—An outstanding performance has been registered in the recent New Zealand University degree examinations by George Bigley, aged 19, an ex-pupil of the Hamilton High School, and attending Otago University. At the latest examinations he established the remarkable scholastic record of passing the second section of the B.A. and the second section of the LL.B., with a total of seven subjects.

Taxes Due—The Commissioner of Taxes draws attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing to-day that the due date of payment of the income tax is on Thursday February 9, 1928.
