THE FIRST STRAD

r- REWARD OF DEVOTION When Antonio Stradivari made his first violin in his little garret at Cremona, Italy, about 1667, he little knew, or perhaps cared, what fabulous prices would be paid for and what devotion would be bestowed upon his instrument in the years to be. Erica Morini, the Viennese violinist, who is now justifying comparison with such, giants as Kreisler and Heifetz—was recently offered 25,000 dollars for her Stradivarius by an American art collector. "No, no.” Morini replied. “You take from me my beloved and you take from me my life.” Miss Morini has been persuaded by by Mr. E. J. Carroll to make a brief tour of Australia and New Zealand during the months of April and May.
