Domain Suggested as Venue for Match Against Australians
‘How’s That” writes: Now that all but one of the Aussie cricketers has accepted the invitation to tour New Zealand and the team contains about 10 Australian aspirants for Test honours we would all like to see them in action here. For the sake of the public would it not be possible to get one of the matches in Auckland played at the Domain? Eden Park is a dreary and out-of-the-way place, with no shade, shelter or comfort for the “bankers” and barrackers. The tram fare to the park siding doubles the price of admission, and it’s a long way to walk. The attendance at the Shield games was very small compared to that on the Domain many years ago when our population was only a quarter. w*hat it is now. A special wicket could soon be prepared on the Domain, and many would be able to get there each day for a couple of hours in the evening. I am sure the gate would surprise the authorities if the match against New Zealand was played there.
