Groener, who has supplanted Dr. Otto Gessler as Minister of Defence, sprang into world prominence during the war. He controlled railway operation until 1926, when he was placed in charge of the economic mobilisation of the civilian population. He succeeded Ludendorff in 1918 as Quartermaster-General and played a decisive role in the Kaiser’s flight to Holland, for which the Nationalists are still reproaching him, alleging that he misled the Kaiser.—A. and N.Z.Sun.
