TIMELY RAIN COMES
HEAVY FALL IN AUSTRALIA END OF FIRE AND DROUGHT By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, Thursday. Heavv rain continues over the south-western districts, and it has relieved many critical drought situations. It was also responsible for a number of wash-outs on the railways. Rain is still falling in Victoria, where, on the fringe of the Maliee Country, floods are occurring. The bush fires in other districts have been extinguished by the downpour, which the weather* bureau classes as abnormally heavy.—A. and N.Z.
