TUI WILDWOOD’S TIME

There still appears to be a doubt in some minds regarding the time recorded by Tui Wildwood when she won the South Wairarapa Cup on Boxing Day, a correspondent pointing out that several daily papers gave the time as 4.41 1-5, while the “Referee” quoted 4.51 1-5. How the difference occurred “Abaydos” does not profess to know, but the reply to “Inquirer” in Wednesday’s SUN was authentic, having been telegraphed by the secretary, Mr. Webster, of Greytown, in reply to an inquiry. The correct time registered by the daughter of Wildwood Junior— Pakatui, who won by three lengths, was 4.51 1-5. The following day, after being brought back 36 yards for her Cup victory, the Carterton-trained mare, after losing ground at the getaway, won again nioely, tramping 4.43 1-5. Off a 4.44 mark in the Hastings Cup, with P. H. Green behind her, Tui has a royal chance of picking up a big slice of the stake.

King Pointer, the speedy son of Young Star Pointer and May Stanley, who put up two very attractive performances at Alexander Park during the recent Christmas trotting carnival, will not be a starter at the Forbury Park fixture next week. O. Hooper’s representative was scratched yesterday morning for all engagements at Dunedin. Acceptances for the Southern meeting close at 5 o’clock this evening.
