ETHNOLOGICAL BOARD’S INVITATION At the suggestion of Sir Apirana Ngata, an important gathering of Maoris recently took place in Wellington at the invitation of the Maori Ethnological Board. TTHE purpose of the gathering was A for the collection of old legends and stories, and for the enriching generally of Maori literature. The meeting was particularly successful in achieving its object. Maoris invited included several who had passed through the wharewananga, as the old Maori university was known. They gave freely of their learning, so that it might be preserved for th© benefit and in the interests of the future of the race. “I have not the slightest doubt but that you will be amazed when the result of this gathering is published,” declared Dr. Ellison, Director of Maori Hygiene, and a keen student of the history of his race, when addressing teachers of native schools yesterday in Auckland.
