MARKET QUIET MT. LYELLS IMPROVE Business on 'Change is quiet, with very little movement in the market. Banks continue in good tone with firm buyers for most shares. Insurances also continue to mefet with iti steady demand and a buyer came in lor Standards at the mid-day call. In coals, Renowns register a firming tendency, and buyers at 12s this morning failed to draw a seller. Industrials are quiet, and receiving Only nominal attention. Taranaki oils improved slightly this morning. Mount Lyells are the only mining scrip receiving much attention and the market moved up slightly to close this morning with buyers 28s 3d and sellers 29s 3d. Other shares in this section arc mostly depressed and idle. SALES REGISTERED Yesterday afternoon’s business: On ’Change—Auckland Gas (ord.), 23s 3d; Northern Steam (pd.), 14s 9d.
