MAORI FARMERS
CO-OPERATION IN NORTH AUCKLAND SIR APIRANA NGATA’S SCHEME Sir Apirana Ngata, M.P., will shortly visit the natives of the North Auckland district and explain his scheme of co-operative land settlement, which has proved so successful among the Maoris of the East Coast district. VTORTH Auckland Maoris v/ill aesemble at different centres toward the end of the month. Dr. ]Sllison. director of Maori hygiene, explained to The Sun to-day.
At present the interests of these Marois are scattered, he said, and it is practically impossible for them to make a success of their farming properties. Under the scheme of Sir Apirana Ngata, however, it might possible for these interests to be coordinated, with the result that the Maoris would materially benefit in more ways than one. “You might ask why this matter concerned me,” remarked the director, .“and why it is not left to the politicians to deal with. But I assure you that any movement which will make the Maori people more prosperous must have a corresponding effect upon their health. That is the way I look at it.”
