BURSTING METAL
ENDANGERS PRINCE BELGIAN SENSATION GRENADE IN FIREPLACE? By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON, Tuesday. A strange story from Brussels says the Crown Prince Leopold was working in his study in the Palace of Bellevue when an explosion occurred in the fireplace. Pieces of metal flew out, but the Prince was uninjured. In spite of the secrecy which is being maintained concerning the event, it is stated that the Prince, war experiences qualify him to express an opinion, says the explosion sounded like that of a hand grenade. Several windows were broken and a door was damaged. Attendants who rushed into the room found it full of smoke. It is believed a quantity of explosive was concealed in a copper ball decorating one of the firedogs on the hearth. Fragments of metal which were collected after the explosion are being examined by experts.—A. and N.Z.
