WAIWERA HILL
ONE IN FIFTEEN GRADE MOTORISTS NOT SATISFIED Advice was received from the Xu. 1 Main Highways engineeE at tlte Automobile Association meeting last evening that the new grade on the Waiwera Hill would not be more than 1 in 15, and that the roadway round the sea front was considered impossible on the score of expense. The regrading would probably not be commenced until the present road was metalled all the way to Maungaturoto. The council considered that the waterfront road way was feasible, and decided to get in direct touch with the Main Highways Board. The association decided to again approach the City Council Parks Committee with a view to discussing the question of a motof camp in Auckland. The Waiuku Bridge was again discussed, it being pointed out that a serious accident had recently occurred there. The reply to the association was that the road was not much used and that the parapets were only 3ft Gin high. The association’s view was that the road levels were such that the parapets effectively obscured a view from th© bridge. The association intends to pursue the suggestion that something should be done to remedy the fault. Owing to difficulties which arose last year with regard to unauthorised persons catering on Muriwai Beach at the motor races the Auckland Automobile Association is this year taking steps to see that no unauthorised caterers enter on the beach.
