RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM
“PAINTING THE TOWN” “Painting the Town,” the most laughable comedy yet seen this year, will be screened at the Rialto and Regent Theatres to-night. Hector Whitmore, played by Glenn Tryon, a small town wise cracker, who is also a prolific peanut cracker, is the inventor of a clever device that stops Patsy Do Veau in her mad race ■with motor cops. To the great amazement of the hfck inventor, the girl at the wheel is none other than the idol of his dreams—the Follies beauty whose picture he has clipped from a paper and tacked to the wall of his garage—although he admits that it took him a long time to recognise her with her clothes on. He displays a number of his inventions, which range from explosive cigars to “The Wonder Car,” an automobile that he claims will go at the rate of 150 miles an hour and stop j in two car lengths. The beauty laughs up her sleeve as she says goodbye and tells the wise one to come and see her some time. He takes her seriously and accosts her at the stage door with wonder car, peanuts and all. Now a deep and dirty plot is hatched to ruin the noble youth. The arch fiend is a New York politician. Things go on from bad to worse until the smart Alec is on the eve of getting a big order from the fire department for a bunch of new and shiny wonder cars.
