MOTOR ASSOCIATION

ACTIVITIES EXTENDED COMPLETE REORGANISATION "tITITH an actual membership of. 5,799 after a thorough revision of tho membership list, the Auckland Automobile Association has decided onan equally thorough revision of its organisation, together* with the appointment of at least four new officials. The association business has. reached such that it has, been considered advisable that it -should now be placed on a ' basis suited to the future extensions of size and service. The organisation will therefore be immediately * departjnentalised, the business being in future run under the ■following heads: • secretarial, touring, patrols, and records: • ' lq addition to-the present staff three patrols*,two on motor-cycles and one to deal with signposts, and a records clerk, wilt be appointed. The reorganisation," which was decided- oja by the council of the association presided over by !Dr. H. La wry last evening," was the result of a report by the secretary, Mr. G. Hutchisons who came to his conclusions after personal study of organisations in fcrigland and Australia. Henceforth Mr. Hutchison will deal with the usual secretarial duties_and finances, will - handle all matters ’of policy, and will generally supervise all departments. Mr, It. Champtaloup will relinquish the title of service officer, and will become touring manager, and supervise the sign-posting patrol* A No. 1 Patrol will be appointed to have charge of patrols, being directly responsible to the council - through the secretary, and a records department dealing with membership will be created, responsible to the secretary. The No. 1 Patrol-will be in Auckland, and 1 his first assistant will spend much of his time in country districts assisting branches, and reporting on conditions. Both these will be mounted on motor-cyales supplied with first-aid kits and other- necessities, and uniformed, the cost of outfitting them being estimated at £l3O each. The signs patrol will have- a light lorry.

The enormous number of inquiries that have J>en made fop touring information during the past ,yea*has resulted iii the decision to put Mr. Champtaloup solely on collection of data, keeping maps and information up, to date and' making such” country trips as he deems essential. : Two other important decisions were

that the end of the financial year be changed from May 31 to July 31, and that, in future new members be rerequired to pay an entrance fee of 10s 6d. In addition the council is negotiating to secure the whole of the first floor in the. building which holds its offices at present, and to make such arrangements with Lloyds’ agents as will enable the club to deal with members’ car insurance in the association office. The revision of the technical department was. deferred owing to the illness of Mr. Cullen, the present engineering adviser. In ail, the changes now decided on are estimated to cost not more than £1,280, and the other pro-

posals, office and engineer, if carried out, will mean an additional £7OO. In all, the costs are set down at £2,000 a year, against which are set new members, income from engineer, and other profits estimated to return £1.850. At present the association's funds total about £3,500. Members of the council congratulated the secretary on his scheme, and expressed the opinion that in. view of the success of similar activities in Kngland and Australia, it would be successful here. Mr. Curd, Pukekohe, said the branches would welcome the move as he had no doubt would all the members of the association. It was something they had been waiting for.
