JEWEL POINTER IN STRONG DEMAND
PRESSING INVITATION FOR EXHIBITION BOUT AT HASTINGS FIXTURE With a view to further popularising the light harness sport in the Hawke’s Bay district and adding attractiveness to the on January 28, the wide-awake executive of the Bay club is making strenuous endeavours to secure the presence of the Auckland crack pacer Jewel Pointer at the fixture to give an exhibition of pacing. The fame of Jack Shaw’s handsome speedy and game little pacer is evidently far-reaching, and the fact that
JEWEL POINTER has started 18 times this season—only four times out of the money and winning stakes valued at £3,345.
he is at the present time one of the most discussed horses in the Dominion is exemplified by the pressing demand upon his services by some clubs. It is generally recognised that the appearance of the consistent son of Logan Pointer —Law Chimes at any fixture in Mew Zealand creates additional interest in the proceedings, while the value of an exhibition by the brilliant pacer to country clubs is indisputable. This was demonstrated at the Waikato carnival last month, and if owner Moodabe accedes to the request of the Hawke’s Bay sportsmen the club will be fortunate indeed, and the public of that district will have a golden opportunity of seeing a real speed merchant in action. Interviewed by “Abaydos,” trainer Jack Shaw, in whose capable hands the arrangements are left, stated “there was no certainty at present that Jewel Pointer would go to Hastings. It depended mainly on whether the horse was going to Christchurch. for , , the February fixJack Shaw ture, and if this was decided upon, then Jewel Pointer would visit Hawke’s Bay for the exhibition. and go on to Addington from there.” Further, referring to the Hastings fixture, the Ellerslie mentor said it was unlikely that Explosion would go across for the Cup. but Leo Mauritius would accompany Jewel Pointer if the trip eventuated.
