McCARTEN AND MARTARMA
■p (CHRISTMAS, trainer of the Great Northern Derby winner, Martarma, has written to Maurice McCarten, offering him the mount on the Martian colt in the A.J.C. St. Leger and the Sydney Cup. Providing McCarten has not accepted any rides for these two important races in the meantime it is more than likely that the ex-New Zealand horseman will steer Martarma in his Australian engagements.
