Mount Eden. * * * * Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson, alter having inaugurated the League oi Mothers successfully in Dunedin, in tends to carry on the work in Southland, thus making a chain of branches from the North to the South. It is hoped that the league will largely take the place of the Women’s Institutes in the Old Country, for it is a bond of union among women and draws them together at regular and stated times. The meetings are usually held in some church schoolroom or small town hall, \s ith a definite subject to talk about. This is followed by tea and a sociable hilf-liour, which proves thoroughly enjoyable to mothers of small children, making new friends for them, and giving them a change of thought and environment.

Miss Enid Smith, of Wellington, is the guest of Miss Barstow, of Epsom.

Miss Bunting, of Masterton, and her sister, Miss Laura Bunting, of Wellington. have taken up their residence in Auckland.

The Sydney papers recently reported the marriage of Miss Ruby Ziehlke, daughter of the late Dr. Ziehlke, to Mr. J. T. Baker, of Barellan, New South Wales. The bride was for some years wheat-buyer for the firm of Louis Dreyfus and Company, Sydney, and is said to have been the only woman in the State to hold such a position. The wedding was a wheat one, the bride being given away by the managing director of the Farmers’ Milling Company, while the chief decorations at the reception hall were ears of wheat.

Mrs. Gladys Sandford, who recently made an adventurous trip across Australia in a motor-car, with a lady companion, now intends to attempt the Cape to Cairo journey by car with another lady as companion. The route to be followed is that known as the “All Red.” She will take «a film camera, and will subsequently make a world lecture tour. Mrs. Sandfdrd will leave Auckland for Australia shortly, en route to the scene of her adventure.
