N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS
SWIMMERS LEAVE TO-DAY CARNIVAL ON SATURDAY On Saturday next, at Dunedin, the New Zealand swimming championships will commence, and the Auckland representatives will leave by the second express this evening en route for the Southern city. The chairman and treasurer of the Auckland Centre, Messrs. J. Enwright and C. A. Edenborough, will accompany the team, and will represent Auckland at the annual conference of centres in Dunedin. Mr. Edenborough will act as manager of the team, and Mrs. G. Brotherton as chaperone. The following swimmers compose the team upon whom the fate of the Yaldhurst and War Memorial Shields depends: Senior Men: J. P. Farrell, J. Enwright, L. Fairgray, and N. K. Sylow. Senior women: Misses G. Pidgeon, E. Stockley, D. Magee, and D. Grant. Intermediate boys: P. Broiynlee and J. Magee. Intermediate girls: Misses E. Champion and J. Thomson. Junior girls: Miss M. Smith. Members of the team and supporters are to meet at the railway station at 7 p.m. The team will return on Wednesday, February 1. The programme for the championships is as follows: January 21 (afternoon and evening).— One mile, 100 yards, lOOyards womens’, 220yds intermediate boys’, 75yds intermediate girls’ breast-stroke, 50 yards junior girls’, 100 yards junior boys’, 50 yards junior girls’. January 23.—220 yards, 220 yards women’s, 150 yards back-stroke. 440 yards intermediate boys’, 100 yards intermediate girls’, 75 yards junior boys’ breaststroke. 50 yards junior girls’ breaststroke, intermediate boys’ diving (low board). January 25.—580 yards, 220 yards breast-stroke, men’s diving (low board}, women's diving (low board), intermediate boys’ diving (final), 100 yards intermediate boys’, 220 yards intermediate girls’, 100 yards junior girls’, 100 yards junior boys’. January 27.—440 yards, 440 yaras women’s, 220 yards women’s breaststroke, men’s diving (final), women’s diving (final), 100 yards intermediate boys’ breast-stroke. 500 yards flying squadron, 50 yards invitation scratch race, 50 yards women’s invitation scratch race, water polo (final). The Kellerman Cup race, over an open course of three will be held on January 26.
