LABOUR STALWART

N.S.W. POLITICIAN’S VISIT TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND The Hon. E. C. Magrath. M.L.C., who arrived in Auckland to-day on a holiday visit to the Dominion, is a stalwart of the official Labour Party in New South Wales. He was appointed to the Upper House by Mr. Lang at the same time as the Hon. A. Willis, M.L.C., who led the Labour forces there. Commenting on the political situation, Mr. Magrath said there was every possibility of the present Government remaining on the Treasury benches for the term of the present Parliament, though in the past the Nationalists and Country Party followers (who constitute the present Government) had not agreed. Mr. Magrath did not consider that the Bavin Government •would carry out any great legislative programme. They would merely fulfil proposals to which the Lang Administration had been committed, such as the harbour bridge i and the city subways, the latter being ! absolutely essential on account of Syd- ! ney’s enormous traffic increase. As for the Labour Party. Mr. Magrath considered that time would Ikul old wounds, and by the time . f the next election the machine would again be in readiness for the campaign. Mr. Magrath will visit Rotorua, Wanganui and Wellington, and will j also stay at the Hermit; g' . Mount j <’ook. before returning to New South Wales. I
