Motor-Cycle Reliability Non Stop Trial

Circuit of 500 Miles in North Auckland SPORTS MOTOR CYCLE CLUB The club Is at present organising wliat is considered to be the toughest trial yet run in New Zealand—a 24hoar non-stop reliability trial run over 500 miles of Northern roads. The average speed for the trial has been cul down to less than touring speed, but nevertheless riding all night through unknown country will be a severe test of the riders. The route selecte’d is as follows: Auckland, Warkworth, Whangarei, Mangonui, Kaitaia, Kaikolie, Dargaville, Paparoa, Port Albert, Glorit. Helensville, Auckland. The night journey will include Whangarei to Kaitaia, and if running to schedule Whangarei again early next morning. The trial is for sidecar machines only, and is open to all comers. A handsome silver cup will be presented to the winner, and trophies to other competitors. MENDING WINDOWS When the celluloid windows of side curtains become cracked through constant folding, get a length of cinema film, soak it in warm water and scrape off the images. A patch should be made from this of such a size that it will overlap the cracks in every direction by about a-quarter of an inch. Amyl acetate should next be applied all over the patch, which should be placed in position over the damaged part, similar to the method of making tube repairs, and the whole pressed between two fiat surfaces. As the cement sets hard in a few minutes. the operation must be carried out quickly. CLEANING RADIATOR This is an operation more honoured in the breach than in the observance. In times incrustation, or "fur,” is liable to occur in the radiator, especially when the car isused in limestone districts owing to the presence of carbonate in the water, and should the efficiency of the unit be suspected the interior should be cleaned in the following manner: Drain off the water ajid fill with a strong solution of common washing soda in the proportion of lib. to a gallon of water. Run the car for 15 miles, and then drain away the solution. When the engine is cool flush out the system with the hose pipe till the water runs clear through the outlet cock. WORLD’S LARGEST MOTORING BODY On September 1 the membership of the Automobile Association of Great Britain passed the 350,000 mark. Every A.A. member is a direct subscriber, the association having no affiliation arrangements with other motoring bodies. It is, therefore, the largest organisation of motorists in the world, with a membership steadily increasing at the rate of 50,000 a year. WATCH THE FAN The fan is a very much neglected part of the automobile. When the bearings are worn it will rattle, and when dry it will rattle first as warning and then will squeak if it is not oiled.
