LATE DR. H. G. H. MONK
FORMER HEALTH OFFICER Dr. Henry George Hawkins Monk. former medical officer of health at Auckland, died at his home in England an January 7, at the age of 66. Born in Gloucestershire, Dr. Monk ■was at one time medical officer of health at - Leicester, and later he practised in South Africa, where he served in the Boer War. Coming to the Dominion, he was in private practice at Waiuku and Huntly, hut in 1911 he entered the Government service with the Health Department at Auckland. Two years later he went to Tonga for a year as chief medical officer. During the war Dr. Monk was stationed at the Avondale and Narrow Neck training camps, later going overseas with the reinforcements. Alter his return he- occupied the position of medical officer of health at Auckland until in 1920 he was transferred to a similar position at Wanganui. In 1924 he retired on superannuation. a:*d went to live in Devonshire, England. About 18 months ago he visited. New Zealand to see one of his sons, wl.o was farming in the South Island. Dr. Monk is survived by his» w*fe , and two sons.
