OCCIDENTAL-UN A.—The manager reports for period ending January 1: On the north end of Xo. 1 reef the work done ’since the holidays has been principally cleaning up-and placing timber in position before stoping operations can be started. Timbering: should be finished by th'2 end of the coming week. At the south end m the stope going south the quartz broken continues to show nice dabs of gold. Stoping: on the footwall dropper in the south end has been continued and the quartz broken shows blend, silica and colours of gold. POVERTY BAY OIL. PROGRESS REPORTS Press Association. GISBORNE. To-c Lay. The Taranaki Oilfields report: Waiapu No. 2 well has been sunk to a depth of 3.010 feet in shate, and an SI-inch diameter casing to '2.990 feet. Gisborne No. 1 well —The SI-inch diameter casing has been cemented in at 2.445 feet and the company is now preparing’to test the shut-off. Gisborre No. 2 well: Construction work ts in progress.
